How to force Editorial to sync every .md file in Dropbox

ClareMacrae

In Details of how "Search in Dropbox" works, I asked:

Is there any way to get Editorial to sync every .md file in all Dropbox directories, regardless of whether they've already been synced - e.g. via Workflow, rather than having to visit them all manually, please? Do Workflows also only see already-synced content?

(I searched Editorial Workflows for download, sync and force)

I think this would be better as a topic in its own right, so I'm asking the question here.

There's currently no way to force syncing of a folder via workflows/scripts, sorry.

I've found that if I hit the Sync button at the bottom of the File view in Editorial 1.1:

  • the app updates the content of all already-download files, in all previously-visited sub-directories
  • interestingly, it also downloads and newly created files in any of these previously-visited sub-directories
  • I tested this by creating on my PC a new file in old old sub-dir, and adding some nonsense text to it, then syncing Editorial. When I then searched for that nonsense text in Editorial it found it, even though I hadn't explicitly visited that folder in Editorial since the addition

This is great - it means that by syncing the root Dropbox level, ~460 of my ~770 .md files are correctly being searched in Editorial.

Now I just have to work out how to load the remaining folders.

Thanks.

For now, I'll just work through all my Dropbox folders in the Editorial browser, and get it to start syncing each folder.

This will be fine, as at least I know that the content will be updated by later syncs.
