Newbie here. I can’t figure out how to do the most basic thing: how do I save a file in Pythonista? I’ve looked everywhere for a save button. Can’t find one. Also, I have no idea where it is going to put a file. Is it on my ipad, is it in the cloud? Where is the file browser?
How can I even find a file once I figure out how to save one?
I’m always the slowest one in class. Sorry to bother you all for such a simple thing.
@flashkube The file browser will show when you tap on the 3 lines up left
@flashkube when you edit a script or text file, save is automatic
Oh, thanks to both of you. I see it now. Haha. My file is in the icloud folder called Pythonista. I didn’t know about auto save. Thanks.

Well along the same lines I was wondering how not to save « automatically »..
What about naming a new file? Where do I go on my iPad’s Pythonista screen or menu to do that? The books say ‘click File, then Save’ then they assume there’s a Save As box, in which I’m to type the name of my new file, and add .py at the end. Thereisn’t any File (menu, drop down, button or otherwise) to get to Save (which I’m going to go out on a limb and assume also doesn’t exist in my iPad’s Pythonista program) with. The three line menu in the upper left only allows one to open or look at stuff that’s already there. This is a very basic thing and without it, I can’t name a new file or folder. @reneemarcelle tap + at bottom left to get a popup where you can create a new file or folder
@reneemarcelle and to rename an edited file, tap the small down arrow at right of the file name, then the 3 points as showed and you will be able to modify the name
@cvp thanks so much! My interface is slightly different, and doesn’t have the lovely New script option (though it may be in the Templates folder of my file browser). I’ve been playing around with it and found a few things out before I saw there actually were (helpful!) responses to my exasperated message. One of the things I picked up is that, at least on my version of Pythonista (it appears it can switch between 2.7 and 3.x), in the upper right corner of the screen there is what looks like an inbox with a large plus sign in it, which opens the same “New” menu as the plus sign from the file browser.
My apologies - I am so new and ignorant of what most of code world is comprised of. I only just learned that Pythonista is only an IDE for Python; it isn’t the programming language itself. That seems big, but if it’s all gone to hell in the next couple of weeks, there are some cheap PCs out there which I’ll be able to get one of and start again from there. That's the Python language version, not the Pythonista app version

This + opens a new tab where you can also create a new file
Python 2 died 998 days ago on 1/1/2020 so please stick with Python 3.
Thanks for the swift replies, cvp and ccc. Recently, the same language appeared with regard to the different versions. It is apparently verbiage from or pertaining to the interpreter and likely is just standard language that hasn’t been updated since the death of Python 2. In any event, it doesn’t call for me to do anything at all, which is good. I’d surely throw a wrench in it otherwise :D
